Panel Webinar – Experts on Gradual Return to Work

During this period when businesses are re-opening and a large number of workers are returning to their jobs, our panelists will speak to mental health, safety planning for re-opening workplaces, and measures to promote wellness and health. This webinar aims to help our audience maintain safety and productivity during a period of transition and address potential challenges for HR professionals, employees and employers. Attendees will be better prepared to advise and empower workers and employers on possible issues arising from the planned return to work and learn ways to pro-actively approach their own behaviour and responsibilities during this period.

Learning outcomes:

  • The planning and preparations required to safely restart organizations set up and manage re-entry procedures; 
  • Help navigate mental health issues arising from returning to work during the pandemic;
  • Setting realistic expectations for transitioning back into a formal workplace.

Tyler Amell, PhD

Dr. Tyler Amell is an internationally recognized thought leader on the topic of workplace health and productivity. He is an advisor on strategic and integrated workplace health and productivity to employers, insurance companies, third party administrators, and health and well-being service providers. He has presented at over 200 conferences and published numerous scientific papers and reports. Dr. Amell is Chief Health Officer and Chief Relationship Officer at CoreHealth Technologies, and is on Faculty at Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Science. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Wellness Institute. In the past, Dr. Amell has also served on the Executive Board of Directors of the San Francisco-based Integrated Benefits Institute (IBI), and the Canadian Association for Research on Work and Health (CARWH). He is the past CEO of a Human Resources Technology Company, past Vice President at a global Human Resources Consulting and Technology firm, and past Vice President of a large Healthcare Company. Dr. Tyler Amell is a former instructor at Queen’s University and the Universities of Alberta, Calgary, and Ottawa. Tyler earned his PhD in Rehabilitation Medicine from the University of Alberta, a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Medicine from Queen’s University and a Baccalaureate degree from the University of Ottawa.
Diana Vissers

Diana Vissers, MA (Disability Management), MCVP (F), RRP

Through Work to Wellness, Diana Vissers has been solving workplace mental health problems for individuals and organizations since 1999. At the heart of Work to Wellness, is passion for helping people and their workplaces thrive. This includes assessing and solving individual needs and helping employers understand their role and responsibilities around mental health. She is an Instructor and developer of a Workplace Wellness course at Simon Fraser University, and leads multiple workplace mental health training programs across the province and for BC Municipal Safety Association. She is a CMHA Certified Psychological Health and Safety Advisor. She is also proud of leading a thriving and happy remote team for over 20 years.
Jordan Friesen

Jordan Friesen, MOT, OT, Reg (MB).

Jordan is a young, energetic leader with a progressive vision for mental health and social services. His experience in a wide variety of roles including clinical service delivery, case management, education, and non-profit leadership provides him with a solid understanding of the industry and in-depth knowledge of where gaps exist for innovation and collaboration. A natural relationship builder, Jordan sees the work of advancing mental health services as a collective effort aided by building and maintaining effective partnerships across all sectors, including government, business, and non-profit agencies. Jordan understands that long-term, positive change doesn’t happen overnight. He skillfully manages change – both with people and organizations – by providing the right amount of challenge to stimulate growth and by focusing on strengths. He enjoys teaching and prefers to build capacity for the long-term rather than see immediate short-term success. Jordan’s vision is to see individuals with mental problems and illnesses thrive in all areas of society and to make mental health services streamlined, efficient, and person-centered. His personal and professional values include humility, honesty, integrity, and accountability. Jordan earned his Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Manitoba, and his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Manitoba. In his spare time, Jordan enjoys hiking, camping, and yoga.

Kevin Kelloway, PhD​

E. Kevin Kelloway is the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Occupational Health Psychology and Professor of Organizational Psychology at Saint Mary's University, Halifax NS. His research focuses on issues related to organizational leadership, mental health in the workplace and occupational health psychology and he has published over 200 articles and book chapters and 14 books dealing with these issue. He has been elected a Fellow of four academic societies and received awards for Distinguished Contributions to I/O Psychology and for being a Distinguished Psychologist in Management. He is active in several professional associations and served as President of the Canadian Psychological Association in 2016. A popular public speaker, he also runs a consultancy advising both public and private sector clients on a variety of issues related to leadership and human resource management.

Chris Back

Chris is the Director of OHS Consultation & Education Services at WorkSafeBC. Consultation & Education Services serves the workers and employers of BC by positively influencing health & safety behaviours and disability management practices through partnerships, consultation, and outreach. Chris has been with WorkSafeBC for six years. Before moving into the Director role, Chris managed the manufacturing & retail portfolio as well as the construction portfolio in Consultation & Education Services. Prior to WorkSafeBC, he held various leadership positions in health and safety and disability management, primarily in the healthcare industry. Chris is a Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist and holds an MBA from Royal Roads.
